Mission

Art Vision Cheboygan (AVC) is a committee of the Cheboygan Area Arts Council. The Cheboygan Area Arts Council is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit based in Cheboygan, MI.

The mission of the Cheboygan Area Arts Council is to promote and encourage cultural and educational activities within the Straits Area of Northern Michigan, and to provide services that stimulate and encourage participation and appreciation of the arts within all segments of the community; and to showcase the historic Cheboygan Opera House.

Art Vision Cheboygan is committed to celebrating and enhancing our community by bringing public art to the city of Cheboygan.

In the last 15 years, the city of Cheboygan and the surrounding community has experienced significant growth and change.

As the city’s leadership and community members engage in this long-term planning process, it has provided the opportunity to include public art in the overall vision and comprehensive plan for the Cheboygan community. In planning for the future growth and development of the city, Art Vision Cheboygan is part of this plan to develop a formal public art plan for the City.

The Art Vision Cheboygan committee was established to develop and oversee a process for commissioning and siting public area projects that would reflect the values, citizenry, history, and uniqueness of the Cheboygan community. This Art Vision Plan integrates public art recommendations throughout, and notes public art as one of the many assets that could promote Cheboygan, boost cultural tourism, cultivate innovation, develop a new generation of arts participants, and support the development of cultural clusters within our community.

With a focus on the importance of arts and culture in the community and the inclusion of public art in the Art Vision Cheboygan plan, the Art Vision committee is looking for support for this process of developing a public art plan for the city.
